Accelerating Hypertension-HIV care and treatment (AHHCT) in Primary Health Care in Akwa Ibom State
The Accelerating Hypertension-HIV Care and Treatment (AHHCT) in Primary Health Care Project is a 12-month project implemented by AHNi in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria to provide integrated HTN/HIV services that will enable early diagnosis and treatment of hypertension among people living with HIV (PLHIV). The project will implement tailored interventions to strengthen linkages to care and treatment and empower PLHIV for self-management to prevent and manage cardiovascular diseases.
Goal: The project aims to reduce the burden and potential negative health effects of hypertension among PLHIV.
Integrating routine screening, diagnosis, and management of hypertension, including support for self-management, into HIV services
Initiating hypertension treatment control among PLHIV
Behavioral and lifestyle modification for those at risk of Hypertension
AHNi has provided HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment services in Akwa Ibom State through the SIDHAS, and EpiC projects. AHNi will leverage the existing relationships with state-level stakeholders, available human, and technical resources to drive integration of hypertension screening and management services into HIV care and treatment in the state.
The AHHCT Project will be implemented in Akwa Ibom State where AHNi is currently implementing the PEPFAR/USAID-funded EpiC project. This project will be implemented in 30 health facilities spread across 10 LGAs of Akwa Ibom State. AHNi will integrate hypertension diagnosis and management services into its HIV care and treatment services in these facilities. The aim is to use Akwa Ibom as a model state for integrated services, document lessons, and best practices that could improve the quality of life for PLHIV in Nigeria.
