Achieving Health Nigeria Initiative (AHNi) is a local non-governmental organization incorporated in Nigeria in 2009 with registration number CAC/NO/33391 and headquarters in Nigeria’s federal capital territory, Abuja. It was established with a mission to promote socioeconomic development by supporting a broad range of global health interventions, education, research and economic initiatives in Nigeria. It is an allied organization to Family Health International (FHI360) with coexisting and mutually supportive interest in advancing the collective goals of the people and communities served. AHNi has presence across four geopolitical regions of Nigeria with a long history of working in North Eastern Nigeria which includes the cluster 1 states (Adamawa, Borno and Yobe) and its beneficiaries include vulnerable groups such as youths, women, children and elderly at both national and subnational levels.AHNI is competent to support the local partners organizations to implement ACE project based on its competencies in technical, financial, and managerial capacity summarized below:
AHNi has a wealth of experience and core technical competencies in implementing donor funded development and humanitarian interventions in Nigeria. It provides technical assistance on a range of program areas and sectors such as Public Health, education and youth development, disease prevention and epidemics control, humanitarian programming on health, protection, WASH and prevention of sexual and gender-based violence. The staff of AHNI consists of a team of experts and professionals from different disciplines who work to ensure provision of quality services, achievement of project results and fulfilment of the organization’s vision and mission of enabling socio-economic development and of improving lives in Nigeria through the mutually dependent strengths of programs in public health and research.
AHNi has a strong capacity in financial management, with well-organized financial management structure, functional internal control system, transparent procurement and asset management processes and procedures. It has wealth of experience in management of grants and subawards for implementation of projects in health (HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, health systems strengthening), Education, Protection and Sexual and Reproductive health/family planning. AHNi’s current grant portfolio includes three (3) USAID funded projects – Strengthening Integrated Delivery of HIV/AIDS Services (SIDHAS) project; Strategic HIV/AIDS Response Program (SHARP Task Order 2); Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC); and Global Fund (GF) National Aligned HIV/AIDS Initiative (NAHI). It has track records in compliance to donor and national policies. This has over the years earned AHNI commendation from several bodies. AHNI will leverage on its past experience, understanding of the context in North East Nigeria, its financial, managerial, new approaches/innovations, and technical capacity to manage the ACE financial resources and support the local partners in the consortium to implement ACE project in the BAY States.
AHNI has very strong leadership and managerial capabilities in project management. It has a coordination mechanism that aids efficient project implementation, monitoring and evaluation and reporting of results and outcomes in a timely manner. This has over the years enabled it to successfully manage financial, material and human resources of the projects implemented, and delivered quality results with desired impact on the population it has served in Nigeria.
