Reading and Numeracy Activity (RANA) Expansion Programme, is a new activity that builds on the success of the RANA Project implemented in Katsina and Zamfara States by FHI 360 as part of UNICEF’s Girls Education Project Phase 3 (GEP3) funded by the U.K. Department for International Development (DFID) in collaboration with the State Governments. The Programme has two major components: RANA Light and Haske IQS Intervention. RANA Light introduces the core elements of RANA intervention to public schools in Kebbi and Niger states while Haske IQS Intervention introduces a new basic literacy and numeracy Programme to Integrated Qur’anic Schools in Bauchi, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, Sokoto and Zamfara.

Series of activities are also built around these two major activities; these include: experimental research on syllabic and alphabetic instruction; Monitoring & Evaluation and strengthening School support system; development of Hausa reading materials for upper grades (P4-P6); training of Master Trainers on reading promotion and community engagement; technical assistance to Kano, Kaduna and Jigawa on scaling RANA Literacy Package. Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) and Early Grade Math Assessment (EGMA) for GEP 3 states. RANA Expansion is part of Girls Education Project Phase 3 (GEP 3) and Educate a Child (EAC) Programmes of UNICEF implemented by FHI 360. The duration of the Programme is 22 months from May 2018 to March 2020.
